Твердолобая позиция
Вашингтон, 10 ноября 1981 г. (ТАСС). Недовольство политикой Соединенных Штатов в Европе и других районах мира нарастает. Это признают даже высокопоставленные деятели администрации Рейгана.
«Европейцы реагируют с настороженностью, а в ряде случаев даже оказывают сопротивление» жестким словам, раздающимся из Вашингтона, пишет в журнале «Стратиджик ревью» помощник президента Рейгана по национальной безопасности Р. Аллен. В Западной Европе, сокрушается он, считают, что «американцы вновь перестарались». Они тревожатся, что перемены в политике США «повредят стабильным и вполне устраивающим их отношениям с соседями — странами Восточной Европы, установившимся в 60-х и 70-х годах», и «несомненно обеспокоены тем, что прямолинейная позиция, занятая новой администрацией в Вашингтоне, может усилить опасность конфликта».
В то же время, признавая все эти очевидные истины, Аллен отнюдь не намерен делать из них столь же безусловные выводы. Напротив, он заявляет о твердом намерении США продолжать добиваться размещения новых ядерных ракет в Западной Европе.

Hard-nosed position
Washington, November 10, 1981 (TASS). Dissatisfaction with United States policies in Europe and other parts of the world is growing. Even senior figures in the Reagan administration admit this.
“Europeans are reacting with caution and, in some cases, even resisting” the harsh words coming from Washington, President Reagan's national security adviser R. Allen writes in Strategic Review. In Western Europe, he laments, they believe that “the Americans have overdone it again.” They worry that changes in US policy will “damage the stable and comfortable relations it has established with its Eastern European neighbors in the 1960s and 1970s” and are “certainly concerned that the outspoken stance taken by the new administration in Washington , may increase the risk of conflict.”
At the same time, while recognizing all these obvious truths, Allen does not intend to draw equally unconditional conclusions from them. On the contrary, he declares the United States' firm intention to continue to push for the deployment of new nuclear missiles in Western Europe.
